Industry Applications

Applications of Dolomite

Steel Industry

In steel manufacturing, dolomite plays a vital role as a slag former, slag conditioner, and refractory material. Before application, it is processed into Calcined Dolomite, which supplies CaO and MgO—essential oxides that react with impurities like SiO₂, Al₂O₃, sulfur, and phosphorus present in iron ore. This reaction forms slag, which is separated to enhance the steel’s purity and quality.

Our dolomite is distinguished by its low impurity levels and high concentrations of CaO (over 30%) and MgO (above 20%). Once calcined, the product offers more than 50% CaO and over 30% MgO, making it particularly well-suited for steel plants. The elevated MgO content in Calcined Dolomite also acts as a protective agent for furnace linings, preventing slag from eroding the refractory materials.

Glass Industry

In glass production, our low-iron dolomite is highly valued for its CaO content (above 30%), which functions as a stabilizer. This enhances the glass’s durability, chemical resistance, and insolubility in water.

The high MgO content (exceeding 20%) in our dolomite is critical for producing both flat and container glass. It contributes to improving the viscosity of molten glass, which in turn increases the final product’s resistance to scratches and chemical damage—essential qualities for glass used in architecture, automotive applications, and solar panels.

Agriculture

Dolomite is widely used in agriculture to neutralize acidic soils and as a natural source of essential nutrients. It supplies calcium and magnesium—two critical elements that promote healthy plant development and improve soil condition.

Our agricultural-grade dolomite primarily contains CaCO₃ and MgCO₃, with minimal sodium and aluminum content. These properties help buffer soil acidity and restore pH balance. However, it’s important to apply dolomite appropriately according to soil type and requirements to avoid potential overcorrection that may affect soil health or plant growth.
